Rigs

As you will notice in the photographs you can see that some rigs landed in such a way that it is more visible than what it should be and could pose a problem or two.

These problems could be the difference between a carp picking up the bait or not.
We will explain all the problems that could occur and more importantly, how to prevent them.

One of the problems that we encountered was that hooklengths made out of stiff materials such as Kryston Snakebite, Fox Insider etc sometimes wouldn’t lie flat against the lake bed especially if they had just come out of the rig bin.

I have experienced this in the past and I have a couple of ways to prevent this from happening.

Most stiff hooklength materials have a high memory, which means that when you take it off the spool it stays coiled up like a spring. What we need to do is straighten it out.

This is why amnesia is so popular amongst carp fishermen, its memory free (hence the name amnesia) and makes life a lot easier when trying to present a perfect bait.

What happens when you take some off the spool it comes off and stays coiled up. But if you stretch it for a second or two with both hands and then release it, instead of coiling back up into the original shape, it stays straight (see pics below) . This is the reason we use it in carp fishing. I use it in both black & clear and usually 15lbs to 20lbs breaking strain.

The best way that i find to keep your hooklinks straight is to stretch them out on a rig board and store them this way until you come to use them.
When you take them off the board they should stay straight without having to stretch them so they sit straight.
This doesn't apply to braids as they are supple and have no memory.

So there is no problem with coiling them up in a rig bin
The picture to the right is of one of my homemade rigboards which i store all my stiff and coated hooklinks on like Kryston Snakebite, Fox Insider, Flourocarbon etc.....

Underwater Rig Photographs

Pictured below are photographs of several rigs and details of the materials that we have used.

We have also written a conclusion about each rig on the points that we noticed.

Hopefully this will give you a better insight as to what can happen under the water and then you can change your rigs accordingly. The problem is that you wont be able to see your rig, so by preventing any problems before they occur should give you a better chance of landing a carp or two.
