Göteborg Carp Fishing Competition

Stora and Lilla Delsjön

30th May to 1st June 2008

Organised by:

Janne Bohlin and Fredrik Palm of Svenska Karpklubben.
www.svenskakarpklubben.com

At 3pm on Friday 30th May everyone had arrived for the swim draw and the spirits were lifted straight away by Tobbe Fränsteam’s unorthodox form of transportation. All his gear including rods and bedchair were strapped to his bike!!!

After a bit of banter, Swims were allocated and everyone made there way to the swims. Fortunately we were taken to the swims in vehicles, which was a huge relief to Jeanette and myself as our swim was at least 2km from the nearest Car park.

As we dropped off ‘Team Evil Pink Rabbits(Rasmus Ljungqvist and Niclas Olsson) at their swim we saw a lot of carp spawning in the reeds right under our feet.

What a great swim they had chosen!!!

We were ferried to our swim, which was the small stuga (cabin) at the canal opening in Lilla Delsjön.

Everything was ready for the start, which was 8pm for the casting out.

At 8.35pm Team Evil Pink Rabbits were in to the first carp of the competition which was a nice mirror carp 5.4kg caught by Niclas, then 15 minutes later they had another mirror carp 9.9kg this time caught by Rasmus. This was to become his NEW PB!

We were catching fish aswell but unfortunately they were Bream and they don’t count!!

Saturday morning came and we heard that Tobbe from Team HMS Albertina had landed a nice mirror carp at 11.1kg down by Bertilssons Stuga at 8.00am.

But Team Evil Pink Rabbits were still in the lead with 15.3kg of carp.

Then it was Rasmus again who landed another carp on Saturday morning at 1.30am. This was his first carp over 10kg and a new Personal best. The carp weighed in at 10.24kg

They were steaming ahead now with a total weight of 25.54kg of Delsjön carp!!!

The rest of the teams were just catching Bream (Joel Abrahamsson in Borås Viken), including us. But that all changed on Saturday afternoon when we caught a DUCK instead!!! Hee hee. Unfortunately ducks didn’t count and neither did Bream, so we were still on a groundbreaking 0.0kg

In the evening the flies were biting us hard and it was a nightmare to be outside the bivvy for more than a few minutes.

Team Team Evil Pink Rabbits had decided not to erect their bivvy and were being eaten alive by the “Knott” (small Swedish biting flies).

On Sunday morning at 5.15am it was our turn and we were woken by a “One Toner” from Jeanette’s middle rod. The carp was very kind to us as it swam straight into the landing net avoiding all the reeds and snags which it could have easily got tangled up in.

Fredrik Palm came and weighed the carp and it was 9840g. So now we were in with a chance, we only needed a 1.4kg carp to take second place.

By 8.15am, Niclas of Team Evil Pink Rabbits had landed another carp weighing 6.1kg giving them a total of 31.65kg.

That was the way it stayed until the end of the competition at 11am Sunday morning and we finished in 3 rd place.

1 st Place – Team Pink Evil Rabbits

4 Carp totalling 31.65kg

2 nd Place – Team HMS Albertina

1 carp totalling 11.1kg

3 rd Place Team Screaming Delkims

1 carp totalling 9.8kg

Later on, on Sunday evening whilst uploading the photos on the Internet someone noticed that the same carp had been caught twice!!!

Rasmus’s 9.9kg carp is the same fish caught by Jeanette at 9.84kg.

We were sat about 1km from Rasmus.

Look at the 2 photos and you will see clearly that this is the same carp!!! A hungry little carp after all that spawning!!

Caught at 9.9kg then 1 day later at 9.840kg 1 km away! Strange but true

6 carp in a weekend in Delsjön without prebaiting is good going
