Things to note
During the summer between 1st May and 1st September there is a parking meter in the car park which costs 5sek per hour (40p) or 20sek per day (£1.60) if you are fishing for a weekend you can pay for the whole weekend at the same time and do not need to return every morning to renew your ticket.
So bring some change with you, as the kiosk will not change any money for the meter.
It takes 1kr 5kr 10kr.
Be aware that in the past, cars left overnight in the car park have been vandalised and even stolen. This is due to the large amount of teenagers who frequent the lake during the summer to party and get drunk. These parties usually go on well into the early hours and sometimes all night!!
The kiosk and toilets are smashed up on a regular basis and they won’t think twice about putting a brick through the windscreen of a car on the way home. So if you have an expensive car it may be an idea to find alternative parking. This doesn’t happen all the time but there have been instances.
This lake is a Blue Flag lake meaning it is a great place to swim and bathe in Gothenburg and large amounts of people gather here during the summer months to bar-b-cue and bathe. There are also a lot of people that come here for a walk and to go jogging
If you are intending to stay for a long period of time it is wise to choose a swim well away from these areas to avoid any problems and enjoy your fishing session.
The kiosk sells drinks, sweets, cakes and ice cream and there are 5 toilets around the back of the kiosk which aren’t the cleanest in the world but they beat squatting in the woods.
The kiosk personnel will fill your water bottles for you and even charge you camera batteries if you ask them nicely
There is a ‘Willy’s’ supermarket about 1km away on Rosendalsgatan if you need any food or drink.
The Lake
Härlanda Tjärn is one of Sweden’s best carp waters and is visited by carp anglers from all over the country.
It is situated about 5km east of Göteborg city center in Björkekärr.
There are quite a few large carp in this lake and the size of the lake is relatively small compared to other lakes in Sweden.
There are both Mirror Carp and Common Carp in the lake, along with a few nice Linear Carp.
A great advantage of this lake is that there are no Bream in it so you can use small hook baits with out fear of being plagued by greedy Bream.
There are also a few nice Tench in the lake that will readily take a 20mm boilie. Other species include Pike, Perch, Roach and Rainbow Trout (implanted).
There are about 15 swims on the lake and are easily accessible. “Mario’s swim” is a short walk through the woods and “Björkudden” is a boggy wet swim that needs wellington boots. There is a gravel path that runs around the whole lake with most swims being 50 meters or less from the path (see lake diagram).

The lakebed is made up of sandy areas and silty areas. The sandy areas are located by the beach /kiosk area, the “big rock swim” and down the southeast bank to the “gamla brygga swim”(“Old Jetty swim”), then the silt begins.
The Northwest bank (“Rotplantån”, “Björkudden”, “Gluggen”, “Tarmen”) is silt and Lilly pads and the far end of the lake (“Mario’s”, “Sunken tree” & round to “Berg Hällen”) are also silty swims with a lot of snags, especially the “Björkudden” and “Gluggen” areas.
The wooden jetty on the Southeast bank has now been moved 100 meters next to “Hällen” which has left a new swim that can be fished.
This swim is called the “old jetty swim” (“Gamla Bryggan”) funnily enough.
Directly behind this swim is a bar-b-cue area where most of the weekend party’s take place.
The current record carp is 16440g and is called “Brorsan”, there is also another big carp in the lake and was the former record. This carp is called the “big Linear” but it has not been caught or seen for over 2 years. It is estimated to be over 17kg now and hopefully it will be caught again soon so we know that this carp is still alive and in the lake.
As for baits, most work well and my personal favorites for Härlanda are Scopex, Pineapple, Magic Fruit, Monster Crab and Squid & Octopus and I have caught carp on all these flavours
Here are some photos of some of the Härlanda carp that have been given names
