Introduction
It's not very often that i put up new lakes on the site, apart from the ones i fish, but i have been given permission to do so with this one.
In Sweden there
arn't many lakes that contain carp, unlike England, France and most of the other European countries. So if you are a newcomer to carp fishing, Sweden is pretty tough as far a finding carp lakes is concerned.
Gothenburg has only a couple of well known carp lakes, i.e Härlanda Tjärn and Delsjön (which you will have already seen here on Screaming Delkims if you have flicked through the site) that any carp angler worth his salt will know about.
Härlanda contains a few 30 pounders and is probably one of Swedens most famous carp venues.
Delsjön is a large water with a good head of carp, however the lake record stands at only about 28lbs.
Personally i believe there are also a few 30's in there, but they are yet to be banked!!!
Moving on to another of Gothenburgs carp waters is Holmadammen.
Holmadammen is what this article is all about.
It has only recently been made known in Sweden and mostly through word of mouth, but this is a water not to be missed.
I had lived in Sweden for 6 years before i heard about it.
Holmadammen
I have only just taken interest in Holmadammen at the start of this year (2009) and Jeanette and i popped up there for a look a couple of weeks ago.
When we finally found it, with lots of directional help via mobile phone (thanks Janne) we eventually found it.
Its a small lake (in Sweden) and is situated in a countryside farming area on Hisingen island, just north of Gothenburg.
The lake is basically in the garden of the local residents so the rules of the lake must be strictly adhered to!
The lake size is about 2 - 3 hektar and has a lot of plant life.
Plant life meaning there is a hell of a lot of weed, both on the bottom and the top of the lake.
We visited
the lake in April and i could only imagine what the lake looked like in the summer months
The carp
There are both Mirror and Common carp in the lake that were originally implanted in the 80's. Since then there were more carp added in the 90's and there is estimated to be around 100 carp in the lake.
In 2001 the first carp over 10kg (22lbs) was caught
and the lake record now stands at 14.1kg (thats a 30lb'er)
During hot weather you can see the carp crusing on the surface.

Methods
Traditional carp fishing is very hard due to the amount of weed, but a float fished grain of corn, or floaters have produced a lot of fish.
Rules!!!!
- Maximalt sex fiskare vid sjön samtidigt. Av dessa sex platser är fyra öppna för alla fiskare och två för medlemmar i fiskeklubben Beach Boys Holmakommitté.
- Fiske bara efter att bokning gjorts och avgift betalats. Medlemmar i Beach Boys kan bara boka maximalt fyra av de sex platserna.
- Medverkande i Beach Boys Holmakommitte´ har rätt att ta med en gästfiskare om plats finns (se punkt 1).
- Maximalt två nätter/dygns fiske i rad.
- Inget fiske i förbudszon (se karta).
- Bilar får inte köras in till sjön. Parkering bara enligt markering på karta.
- Allt skräp skall tas med från platsen.
- Ingen öppen eld.
- All karp skall återutsättas.
- Fiskare skall ha med karphåv och karpmatta.
- Förbjudet att använda levande fisk som agn.
- Båtar är förbjudna.
- Inget fiske i smådammarna. (se karta).
- Förbjudet att röja i växtlighet i och vid vattnet.
- Avgiften för fisket är 50 kr per påbörjat fiskedygn, räknat från klockan 00.01.
- Max tre spön per fiskare
