Name?
Fredrik Palm
Age?
33
Where do you live?
In Gothenburg, Sweden.
Nationality?
Swedish, but partly alien…
What do you do for a living? (Your job)
Research student in paleolimnology. Trying to reconstruct fish population changes in acidified lakes… but I will have to find a real job quite soon I guess…
Do you have a website? If so, what is the address?
www.catchandreleaseproductions.com
What year did you start carp fishing?
2002 I guess, but more sincere approaches has been undertaken since 2004…
What is your PB carp in Sweden?
13,45 kg. Bruno “the burning leather” mirror carp from Härlanda tjärn.
What is your PB carp outside Sweden?
16,6 kg common carp from Rio Segre, Spain.
What is you favourite venue in Sweden?
Härlanda tjärn will always have a special place in my carpfishing heart, since it all started there, but Sweden has many beautiful, tranquil, and soothing carp lakes…
What is your favourite venue outside Sweden?
Only fished Rio Ebro and Rio Segre in Spain, and those rivers are a great treat! Fishing for “wild” carp is something different than fishing stocked lakes.
Who do you fish with the most? Or do you fish alone?
I mostly fish alone, but I do fish together with many different friends occasionally. Depends on choice of venue and timing.
What rods do you use at the moment?
Fox Matrix 13”, 3 lb.
What brand of bait do you use?
Mostly Nutrabaits, but several others at times. Crap baits are history…
Do you use Homemades or Shelf life baits?
Mostly shelf life baits actually. Giving me more time to concentrate on other types of fishing instead of being stuck in the kitchen…
If you could only use one flavour, which flavour would it be?
Some kind of sweet Pineapple when it comes to hook bait.
What are your favourite particles?
Maize
Are you a member of ‘Svenska Karp Klubben’?
Not at the moment, but will pay the fee sometime soon I guess.
What is the best piece of carp fishing equipment you have ever bought?
My real tree camo pillow from Montreal, Canada! Oooohh, I just love it!
Do you fish for other species apart from carp?
Pike, tench, rudd, chub, roach, bream, and other species all depending on season…
If you could change something in Swedish carp fishing, what would it be?
Well, I would like to see more really big lakes containing larger stocks of carp… more surprises to be caught in huge lakes I guess?
What is your most memorable moment in carp fishing?
My first catch in Härlanda tjärn, “the big linear”. It really got me hooked for life. But the first catch from a new lake is also always very special!
What is your worst moment in carp fishing?
Any session with more than 48 hours of constant raining will wear me down…
What is your funniest moment in carp fishing?
Good catches, in good company, with good drinking, in difficult lakes.
The trips to Spain with Ricki and Jon Sköld is something I often tend to look back on… superb fishing partners those lads!
Which carp fishing magazines do you read?
Hardly any magazine at all nowadays. Seems that everything has already been stated at some time in history. But Svenskt fiske (the year book of The Swedish Carp Society) is always nice!
