Sweden V Denmark
International Carp Fishing Competition

An International carp fishing competition between Sweden & Denmark taking place at Gisselfeld Kloster in Denmark.

Dates : 7th October - 9th October 2005

Timings: 16:00hrs Kick Off - 7th Oct

Travelling

Distance in Km: From Göteborg to Gisselfeld Kloster 330km

Estimated travelling time: 3hours 45 minutes (via Helsingborg on the boat) From Göteborg.

Ferry Journey: from Helsingborg to Danmark 20 minutes

The Venue

Gisselfeld Kloster consists of 2 lakes, a "Big" lake and a "small" lake.

Stocking levels: The bigger of the 2 lakes has the larger carp in upto 16kgs. The smaller lake has more carp but are smaller in size. The small lake is considered to be the easier of the 2 lakes.

Difficulty: Considered a Hard water

Water Clarity: Gin Clear

Depths: Unknown (as yet)

Bottom: Pretty soft and there is quite a lot of Water plants (or Snags, depending which way you look at it). Due to the time of year they may be thinning out now

Good to know: The Danish carp anglers who frequent the lake transport thier gear to the swims via quad bike (En 4 hjuling Brrrrrrmmmm m m m mmmmmm). This is known to spook the carp as they drive past resulting in carpless swims for at least a couple of hours. This is an issue that is being discussed in an attempt to prevent this during the competition. So be prepared for this should the Danes not agree.

Info Update: It looks like we will have to endure the quad bikes and hope it doesn't effect the outcome of the competition.

Other Info: The lakes hold large Tench to 5 kg. (but obviously do not count in the competition)

Competition Rules

This is by no means a complete list of the competitions rules but may help in your decision on what you should or shouldn't take with you. The normal fishing comp rules will probably apply but i haven't seen them, so i wouldn't know. However what i do know is:

  • No Boats allowed (so its spod and marker rod time)
  • Maximum 3 rods per man
  • This is simple common sense and really goes without saying, but its is being stressed that the members of the Swedish team should behave in a responsible adult manner at all times during the competition and keep your respective swims tidy and free from any litter.
